ABOUT SOPHIA LERNER

SOPHIA LERNER is a Peruvian brand founded in 2016 by Lima-based fashion designer Sophia Lerner. With a strong love for conceptual meticulosity, creative innovation and a very defined sense of aesthetic identity, we seek to inspire everyone to feel unique and different. The brand, both for men and women, strives to re-invent silhouettes through experimentation blending urban and modern into one.

We explore the myriad textures of denim with each collection striving to create new personal and handcrafted pieces. Each garment is designed and made in Lima, working with local manufacturers and most of the textile intervention is produced in the studio to be used in the construction of the final garments. The brand believes in creating pieces of art which serves as the main source of inspiration each season.

Our products go through more than 12 artisanal processes before reaching the final consumer. A SL product is a high-quality, responsible product that does not make intensive use of machines; on the opposite, it passes over the initial seam adding an artisanal finishing of each of its garments.

We use recycled fabric cloths constructed by hand to avoid increasing the use of new fabric, and textile waste from our production, too. As a policy, we avoid the use of more machines to reduce our carbon foot print, our processes are carried out under a sustainable approach backed by the following certifications:

Letter of Approval no. GOTS-ECOCERT for GHT Germeny GimbH, Global organic textile standard GOTS and the Institute for the certification of ethics and environment.

In 2024 we implemented the Ecocanvas model in the company, a European model that allows us to measure the traceability of our circular processes.

PRODUCTION PROCESS

  • It takes a lot of work to turn a concept into clothing, some take weeks, some take months. For us, the most important part of the process is the research of textures and what we can achieve with them. We love to work with fibers, with different ideas, creating concepts, that’s the moment when we start developing our collection.

    1 / 5

  • Once we have a concept, we start to explore fabrics and techniques. Most of our collections are based on denim, but we also mix different fabrics to develop an innovative and interesting approach.

    2 / 5

  • All of our pieces are handmade. We combine basic techniques with ones that are more complex, that’s why each item takes a lot of time to be perfect and ready to be shown. For us, the details are very important.

    3 / 5

  • We are a small group of people who knit, sew, stitch and dye to create pieces that merge into a unique collection.

    4 / 5

  • We are perfectionists who seek making beautiful, different clothing that inspires people and lets them be comfortable with themselves.
